Dog-friendly Lake Lanier: where to bring your dog
Most lake parks welcome leashed dogs. Pick your side of the lake and see exactly where you can go.

The rules in ten seconds
- ✓Most parks: yesOn a leash six feet or shorter, and pick up after your dog.
- ✕Swim beaches: noNo dogs on swim beaches, playgrounds, restrooms or picnic shelters, even on a leash.
- ✕A few parks: no dogs at allMostly around Buford Dam and Flowery Branch. They’re listed below.

We know, the beach rule is strict. It comes from the Army Corps of Engineers, which owns the lake, and it applies at almost every park. Outside the roped-off swim area, your leashed dog is usually welcome on the rest of the park. Rules change, so check the sign at the entrance.

Before you go
Keep your dog safe at the lake
- Blue-green algaeSee scum or water that looks like spilled paint? Keep your dog out, rinse its fur, and call a vet if it gets sick.
- Hot pavementRamps and parking lots can burn paws in summer. Walk on grass, and never leave a dog in the car.
- Life jacketA dog life jacket with a handle makes it easy to lift a tired dog back into the boat.
- Low waterWith the lake down, the shore is mud and rock and can drop off fast. Check the level.
