Browns Bridge to Six Mile

Fishing mid-lake on Lake Lanier

Browns Bridge, Six Mile, Two Mile, Young Deer and Keiths Bridge. The widest water on the lake.

Right now

What’s happening here

Mid-lake is where the schooling action shows up first in the fall and it is going now. Bait is pouring out of the creek arms onto the main-lake points, and spots are herding it to the surface early and late. Carry something you can throw a long way. Stripers are working the same bait from underneath — if you find birds over open water out here, there are fish under them.

Updated each morning. Conditions across the whole lake are on the fishing page, and the live level is on lake alerts.

The water

Where this arm runs

Roughly from Browns Bridge north to where the lake splits into its two arms, including Six Mile Creek, Two Mile Creek, Young Deer Creek, Keiths Bridge and the Charleston and Tidwell shorelines. It is the widest, most open part of Lanier and it takes wind harder than anywhere else.

Through the year

How this water fishes, season by season

  • Spring

Bass stage on the points ahead of the spawn and crappie get on the standing timber and brush. One of the better stretches for numbers.

  • Summer

Deep points and humps, early mornings. The open water gets heavy recreational traffic from mid-morning on, so fish early and get off.

  • Autumn

The best schooling water on the lake. Stay mobile, watch for birds, and commit to a school when you find one rather than running the bank.

  • Winter

Spots stack on deep timber and ditches. Slow down and fish tight to the structure — you will not catch them running and gunning.
